These two images remind me of the shapes and colour blocking design in the birds I am drawing. Also an idea for pattern distribution. The main pattern for a bird is on it's back or wing feathers, the head and chest are usually plain, very striking, colour. The item's make up could resemble the bird rather to have obvious feathers?

This skirt reminded me of a very delicate print design of the feathers and their patterns. Lots of birds have striped tail feathers which appear as chevrons - Could be accomplished though pleating?

One of the elements of birds I want to pick out and over-use is the metallic sheen of the feathers! I'd really like to experiment and cover my fabrics with foil, metallic binders and sequins.

Stencil foil resist painting - A place to start in my sketch book?
